The Adventure is VERY Adventurous
Today is the day that most Americans celebrate Christmas. We do not, thank goodness because all of our Christmases have been hilariously disastrous. Let’s laugh together as you hear about our first one on the road!
From Jacksonville we went to visit friends in Orlando. Which if you’ve read about our Jacksonville trip you’ll know it wasn’t all roses. We ended up having to stay in Jax for over a week hustling up to buy SIX BRAND NEW TIRES! It was a lot of work but working as a family makes everything a tad less stressful because we’re together having fun. But anyHOO, Orlando. It was fun. It was chill. Until we decided to leave. DUN DUN DUN!!!!

Christmas Eve, Tripppy (our RV) got about 5 miles down the road before she said “nah fam”. She puttered very slowly until we found a safe place to park and regroup. We called our amazing friend who is also an awesome mechanic to help us diagnose our issues. It was his birthday and he still helped us. Shout out to Ray! He of course knew exactly what it was. It was our fuel filter. We go get the part and it was only $10! Sweet!

Now to change it. Aka the real issue. We have ZERO idea what to do. It’s fuel guys. Like flammable fuel. We want someone professional to do it so we don’t accidentally blow ourselves up right? Right. Butttttt the closest RV service repair is 40 mins away. And Trippie can only reach a max speed of 15mph. Sooooo 40 minutes really equals two million hours. I’m not sure if you’ve ever rode that long at 15mph but I’m telling you, it’s ABSOLUTELY for the birds. But we made it nonetheless.
So we get there. Anddddd they can’t help us. Why? Because Tripppy is too old! Guys, if you ever want to buy an RV and enjoy yourself, buy something that’s not older than you okay??! Promise me! But if you looooove complications and problem solving situations, then we’re right here with you. Life long learners and such. However, the mechanics did tell us HOW to fix it and we just had to work up the confidence to do so. We sleep on it.
The next day is Christmas, and after a few video chats with Ray, some YouTube videos, lots of deep breaths and willed courage, we successfully changed our fuel filter and got back on the road. We have two hours exactly until we get to our campground. We are SO excited.

Approximately 40 mins later we are on the side of the road because our door has flown off. Yep. You read that right. Door. Done. We pull over and detach said door and throw it on our living room floor. Because as shitty as this is, we have to reach our destination to regroup because being on the side of the road is not it. This is an adventure right?!
And the adventure always continues! Until you run out of gas. Because our gas gauge doesn’t work of course. Man oh man are we the smartest bunch out there! Now Zo and I are driving 20 mins down the road to fill up gas tanks to bring back to Tripppy while Prince stays with our doorless home.

Like I said, hilariously disastrous. It was dark when we got to our destination which covered up the fact that we have no door. And we shall get the heck outta dodge early in the AM to continue being stealthy with our no door situation. We will get a door “kesho” (Swahili for tomorrow). But the most important part is we persevered. We got hit from soooo many angles, but we never gave up doing what we had to do. Together as a unit, we took what life threw at us and solved our problems. We are strong. We are resilient. We are crazy. But that’s okay. Because we're having a whole lot of fun!
